Asterix the Gaul

Had the occasion to discuss Asterix with some people at work today. It is amazing how many people have read and enjoyed this series of French Bandes Dessinées (Comic Books / Graphic Novels). The really astounding part of this is how the comics can be read over and over without the feeling of boredom. Every reading brings out new jokes, puns, characters, etc. Back in the early days of the internet, I discovered the Asterix Annotations by Sudhakar “Thaths” Chandrashekhar. Now I find that recently he has updated the Annotations to version 4 (recently as in 2006). For any Asterix fan, it is a must visit site.

This is a painstaking effort at annotating each comic book, each character, location, etc. etc. If you wanted to know what SPQR or what Vade Retro means, this is where to go. A big salute to every contributor to the site.

Please Hanners, don’t hurt ‘em

A quick shout out to Questionable Content from yesterday.

Hannelore didn’t freak out when Dora hit her on the head. So there has to be a “minimum” physical contact at which she breaks. Has that ever been explored? Hmm.
